In 2015 at the age of 25 Steven hit rock bottom he was drinking dangerous amounts of alcohol, chain smoking ciggarrettes and physically and mentally in the worst shape of his life. He decided to fight back and start running as a way to help him turn his life around and 3 months later ran his first half marathon at the Great West Run finishing in 1 hour 30 minutes 46 seconds that was the start of a new beginning fast forward another 3 months he ran 1 hour 23 minutes 33 seconds in Exeters Half Marathon shortly followed by finishing as a finalist on Channel 4’s hit reality show SAS Who Dares Wins in the South American jungle.
After returning in the shape of his life both physically and mentally he ran a 1 hour 20 minutes 22 seconds at Bournemouth half finishing 17th out of 3500 runners and to top that he also won his first 2 boxing matches all within a year.
In 2020 he decided to run across the width of Africa to raise funds and awareness for a charity that saves children off the streets and gives them hope. He ran a cool 68 marathons over 56 days of running with only 10 rest days, 6 of which were due to injury. He was on target to be the first to run the width in under 90 days when the pandemic forced him home a few weeks early.
Steven’s own experiences are embedded in the core values of Warrior Chimps, the name was inspired after reading The Chimp Paradox by Professor Steve Peters a book that enabled him to grow his self-awareness and manage his inner chimp.
He cares deeply about creating events that combine all of the things that saved his life. Our events are built to nurture physical, mental, and psychological health in supportive enviroments. Steven plans to use this platform to support mental health initiatives in our communities.
Up until 2018 Jacob was on the road to nowhere, seeking out the fleeting moments of pleasure
amongst the apathy and general feeling of midweek-mediocrity. It was in 2018 that Jacob said
enough was enough and made the conscious decision to address the issues in his life and ditch his
live-for-the-weekend mentality. Coincidentally, at almost the exact same time that this conclusion
had firmly taken root in Jacobs mind, he met Steven, the founder of Warrior Chimps working on a
building site in Plymouth. Very quickly, a true friendship was born that blossomed into something
that would help Jacob to reshape his life into something far more light and positive, and it continues
to do so to this day.
Not really knowing exactly what he needed to do shake up his current existence, Jacob decided he’d
give travelling a go and had explored the idea of volunteering out in Ghana for a few weeks. In
typical Steven Crompton fashion, he took Jacobs plans and made them bigger and better, and by
fateful design the two of them ended up spending 3 months out in Uganda, volunteering for two
local community organisations and coaching football to a team of ex-street kids from Kampala. Jacob
went on to travel solo around Latin America and Southern Europe each for a few months at a time
and it was through these trips that he would be introduced to the organisation that would change
his life forever. In 2019 he attended his first spiritual retreat just outside of Lisbon with the
Somananda Tantra School, studying a blend of meditation and yoga. Jacob knew from the get go
that he had found something life transforming and hasn’t looked back since, going on to attend
many more courses and lectures with STS.
Through a blend of his own spiritual studies, his studies as a counsellor and further experiences
travelling abroad, Jacob realised that his greatest aim in life was simply to provide meaningful and
positive service to something bigger than himself and has been seeking ways in which this goal might
be achieved ever since this realisation took hold. It is a combination of this thinking, plus the love
and faith that he holds for Steven and his vision that has inspired him to jump aboard the Warrior
Chimps team and aid them in delivering events that leave all those who participate hungry for more.
After running his own software professional services consultancy for a period of time Stuart then climbed the corporate ladder in various computer software companies where he held various responsibilities primarily in the product marketing and services delivery arenas.
Stuart was part of the team that helped to build Adobe UK’s professional services corporate systems division. Along with several colleagues he went on to oversee the transition of Adobe’s professional business in the UK to a partner community later joining the partner company RMA Consulting with colleagues from the now disbanded Adobe professional services business.
In 2012 Stuart and his wife following the sale of RMA Consulting to NTT Data, relocated from Surrey to Cornwall where they have until very recently run a camping and holiday letting business. Stuart’s running interest developed off the back of having a heart condition diagnosed in 2017 and a desire to improve his fitness post stent surgery. From very tentative steps at his local Parkrun Stuart has gone on to take on numerous ultra-distance running events including the MudCrew RAT Plague and the Eco Trail Madiera to name a couple. He likes to run with various local running clubs and enjoys longer event outings on the trails and occasionally local road running events.
As well as helping to develop the hugely popular Conquer24 Endurance Running events he is also the Race Director for the local Bude Pirate Run.
Duncan joined the Warrior Chimps team in 2022 having moved back to Devon, with his young family, from Dorset. As a former primary school teacher and health and wellbeing business owner, he brings with him a deep-rooted desire and enthusiasm to motivate others to get more active.
Not one to shy away from challenges himself, Duncan has run the entire 115-mile length of the Jurassic Coast in one go, and has also swum several of the Lakes in the Lake District.
When not implementing Warrior Chimp’s marketing strategy and helping to plan the events, Duncan can be found on the beach with his wife
